Instructional Assistant, Committee on Environment, Geography and Urbanization (CEGU)

Ariana earned her bachelor's degree in Anthropology and Political Science, as well as a minor in Social Welfare and Justice from Marquette University in 2020. Her BA research involved conducting anthropological participant observation with resettled refugees in Milwaukee, Wisconsin with the goal of learning more about ideas of identity and belonging. Before applying to the University of Chicago's MAPSS Program in the fall of 2023, Ariana spent a few gap years traveling the US southwest with AmeriCorps NCCC, working for a public works department, and later, for a health care company. In the MAPSS program, Ariana specialized in socio-cultural anthropology and earned the Latin American and Caribbean Studies Certificate. Her thesis research focused on understanding US based Guatemalan-American perceptions of the US involvement in the Guatemalan Civil War. Ariana continues to prioritize learning about US relations with Latin America, and her involvement with the Latin American community in the US.

Outside of academia, Ariana enjoys dancing with her bachata dance team, hosting dinner parties, crocheting and making jewelry, and indulging in an embarrassing amount of reality TV.
